Michael's first performance, at age eleven, started in his country church. Under the encouragement of his piano mentor, Archie Swenson, he developed a true appreciation for acoustical instruments. While attending Mankato State College he studied music theory and composition. In 2002 he wrote a special composition for his son’s wedding entitled "A Fathers Love" which has received warm radio play around the country.
